Proverb of the day

Those who are never satisfied will satisfy the most.

What does it mean?

If you don't know, then I'm not sure I can help you, but I'll explain.

Those who are never satisfied with the quality of their products will consistently put out the best products. It's the constant struggle to improve. It's the reaching for a higher plane.

Once someone has decided that their work is good enough is exactly when it stops being good enough.

Confused? You shouldn't be.

There are a handful of people in our industry who fit this category, and it seems that they all know each other.

I wonder if other industries operate in a similar way.

I definitely agree with your basic premise here but don't forget that there are plenty of folks chasing quality that aren't a part of the coffee/internet/competition echo chamber. It often seems like 'everyone' knows one another but there are shops and roasters that aren't really involved in the coffee 'scene'.

You are correct. I didn't mean to imply that there aren't progressively thinking shops who are not involved in the internet communities or the SCAA.

I do think, however, that involvement in groups can only accelerate the advancement in progress as knowledge is shared, and experiences had.

You're right. I do think that quality-focused companies that aren't so out-in-the-public are learning a lot from the public-oriented discussion of others.

What's scary to me is the high level of contentment among many of the forum types. Why continue if you found your peak?

Interesting thought, Jaime.
